It benefits students and teacher alike, to develop some routines for learning about target words as well as some routines for learning new words independently. Robert J. Marzano and Debra J. Pickering developed and outlined a powerful six-step instructional sequence in their 2010 book, "Building Academic Vocabulary: A Teacher's Manual." These videos detail these six steps.
