heat transfer

Introduction to heat transfer?

Heat Transfer is a very versatile way to decorate garments and accessories. Heat transfer vinyl comes in a range of colours, textures and finishes. The vinyl is loaded into a cutter, you upload your design to the design (RIP) software and it instructs the cutter on how to cut the vinyl. Once completed you will remove the excess vinyl - this is known as weeding - and then apply the vinyl shapes to your garment or accessory. This is then pressed under a heat press, which will cause the vinyl to adhere to the garment.

You can also use heat transfer printable vinyl. For this you will need a printer and cutter. It is a similar process to applying the coloured vinyl, except the printer will print your design first before cutting.

What can you create with heat transfer?

Heat transfer vinyl has many different applications,

T-shirts, Cushions, Soft Fabric Bags, Banners, Jackets, Umbrellas, Safety Work Gear, Sports Wear, Sports Bags etc.

There are many different vinyls that are designed for different applications and materials. It is important to read the instructions on a vinyl to decide if it will be right for the application you want to use it for.

What do you need to do heat transfer?

Desktop Cutter and Printer & Cutter: This are perfect for someone starting out or doing small production runs.

Printer & Cutter: If you need a machine that will allow you to do bigger production runs then you need to look at a larger Printer & Cutter set up.

Heat Press: The heat press is what will bond the vinyl to your garment or accessory. It is important to get a good quality one, as you need it to keep a constant temperature and provide even heat all over the surface. Otherwise your vinyl will not adhere properly.
