An initiative funded by the Alberta Heart and Stroke Endowment Fund
MacEwan University is offering an incredible opportunity to staff, students, and faculty to become Heart and Stroke instructors for Basic Life Support Provider (BLS) courses at no cost. The Building Capacity and Building Community initiative will offer instructor training to MacEwan’s community to support sharing education with our external community partners. This is a collaborative initiative recognizing the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation Endowment Fund and the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s current mandate as well as aligning with MacEwan’s strategic pillars.
The training will be delivered by the Professional Health Education, Life Support Training staff at the School of Continuing Education. We are excited about building a diverse pool of BLS instructors who will have the opportunity to teach within MacEwan and the community. Ongoing support for annual instructor fees is available in recognition of teaching within the Building Capacity and Building Community initiative.
Participants are not required to have any prior knowledge in life support.
This opportunity is open to absolutely anyone in the MacEwan community with an interest in the topic and a willingness to help people.
The only requirement is that you are a staff, student, or faculty member of MacEwan University.
In order to become a BLS instructor, it is required that you have a current BLS Provider Course Completion Card issued by the Heart & Stroke Foundation and have been a cardholder for a minimum of one year. If you do not meet this requirement, you can still partake in this initiative. We will be offering BLS Provider (the introductory course) in addition to the BLS Instructor course.
If you would like to participate, you must:
Take BLS Provider then take BLS Instructor (both courses are offered through this initiative), or
Already have a current BLS Provider Course Completion Card for a minimum of one year, and then take BLS Instructor
For those who have a current BLS Provider Course Completion Card and are only in need of the BLS Instructor course.
Please Note: You must be a BLS provider for a minimum of one year before taking the instructor course.
