This spring and summer, emerging artist Sanaa Humayun will be mentored by Meera Sethi, an interdisciplinary visual artist whose affective, research-based practice explores fashion, dress, garments, and materiality from critical, feminist, and anti-colonial perspectives.

Sanaa Humayun (she/her) is the child of Pakistani immigrants, completing a BFA at the Alberta University of the Arts, currently living and residing in Mohkintsis, on treaty 7 land.
She is involved in Latitude 53 & the Mitchell Art Gallery’s project Writing From Here, and is, along with Kiona Ligtvoet, co-founder of Making Space — a peer mentorship group for emerging visual artists that decenters whiteness. She has exhibited most recently at Marion Nichols Gallery, Lowlands Gallery and Latitude 53. She is also the co-director of Coven Gallery.
Her art explores themes surrounding her right to take up space without facing violence, and a tender exploration of her childhood and familial relationships. She is passionate about being an advocate and fostering community, through means of art, conversation, and an unapologetic love of gossip. She is a Scorpio with a chip on her shoulder, and a deep love for her friends.

Meera Sethi is an interdisciplinary visual artist whose affective, research-based practice explores fashion, dress, garments, and materiality from critical, feminist, and anti-colonial perspectives. She engages in drawing, painting, fibre, social practice, and performance to think through migration and its relationship to memory, cloth, and care with a special interest in the histories of South Asia.
Meera's work is in the permanent collection of the Royal Ontario Museum and the Wedge Collection and has been exhibited at the Art Gallery of Ontario, Art Gallery of Mississauga, and the L'Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival, among other venues. She is the recipient of multiple awards from the Toronto, Ontario and Canada Arts Councils, the Textile Museum of Canada, the University of Toronto, Inter Access, and the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. Her work has been featured in NBC, NPR, The Toronto Star, The Globe&Mail, The Fader, VICE, VOGUE India, CNN, MTV and numerous other print and online publications.
Alongside her arts practice, Meera continues to work as an illustrator and graphic designer for clients in the creative, commercial, business, and not-for-profit industries.
Meera lives and works in Toronto, Canada, the traditional territory of the Anishnaabe, Haudenosaunee, Huron-Wendat, and Mississaugas of the Credit River.
