Special Education Grades K-12

Special education services are provided in the student's typical building of attendance in the general education classroom, resource room, therapy room, or special classroom. At times, a student may be educated outside of the district in a special school to meet their individual needs. An Individual Education Program (IEP) is developed to meet each student's unique special education needs.

Students must meet state of Minnesota eligibility criteria in one of 12 disability categories in order to receive services age 7-21. These categories are included below with links to the Minnesota Department of Education website for more information:

Related Services include:

  • Occupational therapy

  • Speech therapy

  • Physical therapy

  • DAPE

  • Social Work

  • Nursing services

Related services cannot be provided unless the student is already receiving a special education service in a disability area, such as a learning disability. The related service is only provided if the student requires the service in order to make progress on their IEP/IFSP goals.
