Sedation exists along a continuum. We are trained and equipped to handle all levels of sedation while vigilantly monitoring your patient, including:
Anxiolysis - drug-induced state during which patients respond normally to verbal commands.
Moderate "Conscious" Sedation - drug-induced depression of consciousness during which patients respond purposefully to verbal commands.
Deep Sedation - drug-induced depression of consciousness during which patients cannot be easily aroused but respond purposefully following repeated painful stimulation. The ability to independently maintain ventilatory function is often impaired.
General Anesthesia - drug-induced loss of consciousness during which patients cannot be aroused and do not respond purposefully following repeated painful stimulation. The ability to independently maintain ventilatory function is often impaired.
The type of sedation used is determined through collaboration between doctor, patient, and CRNA to provide the safest and most beneficial anesthetic.
