Conclusions and Further Exploration
As of right now, the data available to us gave us some basic insights into the deaths of Minnesota soldiers during WWI. We explored the most frequent causes of death and how they related to included data such as age and year of death. However, more data is needed to delve into deeper insights. The data available to work with was limited by some factors, like lack of specificity on time of death beyond year of death (The US fought WWI almost exclusively in 1918, declaring war in 1917). We have demonstrated the usefulness of additional data by incorporating 1910 US Census data to show the per capita death rate by county, showing which parts of MN were particularly impacted by war fatalities.
Further exploration alongside other datasets, such as related national-level data on US deaths in WWI, may provide us with more insights and topics to explore. We might be able to compare how Minnesota fared in comparison with the rest of the nation.
