Youth Art Contest

Submit your art piece and artist statement for the Youth Art Contest here with your contact information so we can reach you when the contest winners are selected. Deadline to submit work is August 5th. We can't wait to see your amazing work!

Prompt:

What do you wish for the Mississippi River? Knowing that the river has changed drastically in the past, and has possibilities for change in the future, how do you imagine the ever-shifting river? What river do you hope for? What river can we work towards?


Guidelines:

The goal of this contest is to engage the young public, disseminate information about the U.S. Army Corps’ disposition studies on the Upper Mississippi locks and dams, and learn what the Mississippi means to folks through their art.

1. You need to live near the Mississippi River (in the Twin Cities area)

2. Must be age 14-18 to qualify

3. Art must be made by the artist themselves

4. Art style: Paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed media works, digital art, must be able to be scanned/uploaded for web submission (JPG, PNG etc.)

5. No photography submissions


Agreement:

*Submissions may also be collected and sent to the Army Corps of Engineers and U.S. Congress as a means of communicating new ways to imagine public engagement to infrastructure decisions.

*Work will become part of the research project.
