❓ Frequently Asked Questions
The G/T program provides services for students who demonstrate exceptional abilities in intellectual, creative, or academic areas. These services go beyond the general classroom curriculum to challenge and engage advanced learners.
Anyone familiar with the student’s abilities can submit a referral—including parents, teachers, counselors, or even the student themselves.
Students will go through a screening and assessment process that includes standardized testing, behavior checklists, and classroom data. The results are reviewed by a trained committee to determine eligibility.
We use a mix of cognitive ability tests, achievement data, teacher checklists, and parent input to get a full picture of each child’s strengths.
Yes. Giftedness can emerge at different stages, and students may be referred again in future years.
Services may include classroom differentiation, enrichment projects, advanced assignments, and learning extensions based on student strengths and interests.
No. Services are designed to enhance—not replace—the core curriculum. Instruction is thoughtfully scheduled to keep students engaged in both.
Students can qualify for both. These “twice-exceptional” students receive support for all their learning needs, with a plan tailored to their strengths and challenges.
We will review the previous district’s documentation. If it aligns with our criteria, services may continue. If not, your child may be placed on a probationary basis and tested during the next window.
Appeals must be submitted in writing to the Office of Curriculum and Instruction. A review process is outlined in the district G/T Handbook.
