Fridays in the MA Garden
Fridays November 8th, November 15th, November 22nd, December 6th, and December 13th– join for one or all!
Tania Bettis and a revolving cast of co-leaders
Come spend the afternoon in the garden and make the space your own- plant a few seedlings, weed some spaces, turn some soil, then relax and enjoy a snack with good company in a beautiful space. Studies show that contact with soil (and particularly a special bacteria in the soil) causes a release of serotonin in the brain, improving mood and wellbeing and you will be giving back to our community in a wonderful way. This is an outing series with a total of 9 possible Fridays. Signing up allows you to attend any number of them and each day you attend will earn you PE credit. We will head up to the garden 15 minutes after the end of the school day and then wrap up around 5 pm.

Public Transit Hike
Saturday, November 9th
Leslie Beach ‘04 and Julie Helmbrecht
When Leslie was in high school, she didn’t have her driver’s license and always pined for the adventure that felt off-limits with that lack. Transit in Marin can be tricky, but it opens up a whole world of wilderness, from the West Marin Stage that goes out to Bear Valley Visitor Center to the shuttle out to Muir Woods, and beyond. There are also a host of routes from town to town that move through open space, along bike routes, and past familiar town streets. On this day-long outing, we’ll meet at MA at 9 am, walk to the San Rafael Transit Center, take a bus to Mill Valley, and through-hike 8+ miles back to MA. Bring your clipper card if you have one, otherwise we can get your bus ticket, and we’ll stop for delicious lunch along the way! We’ll be back by 2 or 3 pm.
For those students who receive Tuition Assistance, outing costs will be covered according to your Tuition Assistance Award percentage.

Waterfall Hike, Before
Thursday, November 14th
Leslie Beach ‘04 and Gabby Sosa
It’s one thing to go on a waterfall hike in the full-blown rainy season, but what about a waterfall hike right when it’s hopefully beginning? This outing will leave right after school on the 14th. We’ll drive over to the Azalea Meadows trailhead in Fairfax, hike out to Carson Falls, and see what the flow is like at the end of the dry season and/or beginning of the wet season. Then, in spring, we’ll offer another trip to compare and contrast! (You don’t need to commit to both, but it might be kind of cool…) We’ll cover about 4 miles and plan to return to campus between 6 and 7.
