My name is Aurelia Moriyama-Gurish. I am currently a senior at Marin Academy and am enrolled in the Marin Academy Research Collaberative (MARC). My research project has been focused on tidal disruption events. Tidal disruption events occur when a star is perturbed from it's orbit by a supermassive black hole. The tidal forces of the black hole pull the star apart and the gases of the star form an accretion disk around the black hole. My research has been focused on creating a machine learning program that would be able to determine the probability of a tidal disruption event occuring in a given host galaxy.
My interest in physics and astrophysics was intially sparked my interest in cars. I have been working on cars from a young age with my uncle (our proudest accomplishment being the 2006 Subaru we nicknamed Jenny). Working on cars sparked my interest in learning about the mechanisms at work within the car. I began reading physics textbooks and learned to love physics for it's presence in every aspect of our lives.
