January 23, 2020
Right now, with the help of my mentor, Ramon Blakenship, we are scheduling our subjects to preform our first official test on Wednesday, January 29th. We are hoping to schedule four subjects to all preform the entire test. I am extremely excited for the first day of data collection!
Today, as well as this entire week, I have been working with my mentor Ramon Blakenship to really dive into different implications and variables within my testing. We met three times this week and discussed on how different factors such as eating, drinking caffeine, and other supplementations could possibly affect my results. This entire week has been the most beneficial work I have done to move my project towards my end goals. Additionally, during one of our meetings, we were able to test a subject, as seen in the picture above, on his oral breathing. In the photo above, the subject is pictured riding the Rogue ECHO Bike with a PNOE mask next to Ramon Blakenship.
Today, I am organizing my study for this coming Wednesday. I usually spend my work on Sunday scheduling and confirming test subjects for the coming week. I am hoping to testing four new subjects this week with either nasal or oral tests; depending on what the online randomizer chooses. I am really excited for this week and to gather more data!
To this day, I have preformed eight tests for my project. However, I will only use four of the data points from these tests because the other four were preliminary trials so I could become accustomed to the PNOE equipment. My hope is to test four new subjects this coming week and continuing to collect data the following week. I hope to have all of my data collected within the next six weeks.
As a product of the recent Coronavirus pandemic, my lab work has been postponed. The SF Bay Area has put a quarantine on all non-essential travel which has limited my work. I will now be working on other aspects of my project and prioritizing my writing, more specifically, my introduction.
With the county wide stay at home order, I have been able to take great strides in my writing. I have been looking at other scientific articles to help me with my Introduction and Method sections in my paper. I am excited work more on it in the coming weeks.
For the past couple of weeks, I have been working on finishing my Manuscript. This past week, I made a lot of progress with my "Procedures" section. I am hopeful that I will only need a singular round of peer editing, then the section will be ready to publish.
This week I have been working on the abstract for my final manuscript. This mean's that I have taken a first step in analyzing my data. The picture above is from my testing with Ramon back in February. In the picture, I am setting up the PNOE Metabolic Analyzer for testing.
