This article compares the differences in adolescent mental health in regards to privileges such as neighborhood location, school, socioeconomic status (SES), etc. This study focused on two samples of 10th grade students (one in a high SES and the other in a low SES) that were both highly invested in academic excellence. I focused primary on the high SES group because it is the most similar to the student pool that I will be conducting my research with. The more affluent students reported a significantly higher rate of all substance abuse. The high SES group also experienced higher rates of low self-worth, peer envy, and sexual harassment. Due to many financial and other sociodemographic adversities, the low SES reported higher distress in some areas, yet it was the high SES group that seemed to be an a "distinct disadvantage" from a mental health standpoint.
