Hi, my name is Michael Lu and I am a student in the Marin Academy Research Collaborative (MARC) program.
I was drawn to the MARC program because it allowed me to independently pursue my scientific interests in a less structured setting. During my time in the program, I hope to gain research experience in a lab setting as well as communication and networking skills which I can use in the future.

Since I have always been drawn to the natural sciences, when I heard about the MARC program I immediately knew that it was something I wanted to be a part of. During the two summers before my junior year, I had volunteered in an HIV research lab at the San Francisco Veterans Association Medical Center (SFVA). Because of this, when it came time to start looking around for project ideas, I immediately contacted some of the researchers who I had worked with at the SFVA. Fortunately, they were able to provide me with a project which is in my field of interest.
