My interest in environmental science started in 7th grade when we started a unit on new innovative ways to combat climate change. I began to research green roofs and ways to incorporate agriculture into urban settings. Carrying this interest into high school, I was immediately drawn to the Marin Academy Research Collaborative (MARC) as a way to potentially explore more ways to help mitigate pollution. I dipped my toe in the water of what researching and crafting an experiment was actually like by taking the pre-MARC class. This was very transformative in my decision to apply to the MARC program. It opened my eyes to the impact that research could have on decreasing plastic pollution or addressing water shortages. Being almost a year into the MARC program now, I have narrowed down my topic from exploring green roofs to testing the effects of greywater on the edibility of crops. I hope to take a summer class on sustainable urban planning to broaden my knowledge of how agriculture can be incorporated into the structure of cities to help make it more environmentally sustainable. Along with the class, I am planning to continue to read journal articles and research papers to stay up to date with new research around my topic.
Extracurriculars
Besides science, my favorite subject in school is art. I love to draw, take photos, and put together short films. I play piano and guitar and am currently obsessed with both. I also love to play sports and be outdoors. I am on the varsity tennis, basketball, and lacrosse team. Out of all of the sports my favorite is definitely lacrosse. The complexity, creativity, finesse, and athleticism required to play really draws me to the sport.
