Hello! My name is Charlotte and I am a student of the Marin Academy Research Collaborative.
I joined this program because I wanted to follow my interest in science that I have gained over the years and expand my horizons by pursuing an independent project. Through my time in the program, I hope to discover more about the complex process involved in designing and carrying out your own research project that I would not be able to learn in a traditional science class.
Exploring Experimental Design Course
I took this introductory course focused on research design, hypothesis testing, and basic laboratory skills my sophomore year. I designed a unit of study revolved around planaria and taught it to my classmate. I also was visited by research scientists and took field trips to local universities and research facilities.MA Admissions Fellow
I work on the MA admission team and led campus tours to students and their families. I supported Admissions Office with Campus Visit Days and Open Houses. I engaged in communication with prospective students through answering questions.Dance
I have been dancing since I was two years old and it is a huge part of my life inside and outside of school. Inside MA I am apart of the Marin Academy Dance Company and performed my first solo this spring. Outside of school I dance with Marin Ballet on a rigorous training schedule along with many performance opportunities. My curiosity surrounding artificial sweeteners stems from my general interest in health and nutrition. As an active ballet dancer, it is important for me to know how what I eat will affect my body. I found that many foods and drinked being marketed as healthy still had stevia as a sweetener in them. I really want to see what effects that this sugar can on our microbiomes. I hope that my project will give people a better understanding of how consuming stevia affects their bodies.
