I have always considered myself to be a scientifically-minded and intellectually curious individual, and the MARC program provided the perfect opportunity to develop further these aspects of myself, and to explore my long-held interests of astronomy, physics, and engineering.
This year I chose to take AP Chemistry, as I was initially interested in exploring a project involving such subjects. Next year, I plan to take a course in advanced physics.

My dad's first career was as a research astronomer, and this interest was imparted upon me throughout my childhood in conversations at the dinner table and sessions with a telescope on clear nights in our backyard. It blossomed into a broader, more general interest in STEM, which led me to the MARC program. During a panel of several guest scientists at the beginning of this school year, one scientist, Dr. Steve Bryson, mentioned a project involving Kepler data and Python, and that he was looking for students to help. Intrigued, I approached him after the panel, and thus found my current project. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been given this exciting research opportunity with such an experienced expert as Dr. Bryson.
