Artists explored the history and the artistic styles of graffiti. They created their own graffiti "tag" name based upon their own personal experiences. With their nicknames chosen they developed their own unique graffiti style for their murals.

Artists explored the ideas of symbolism in art by looking and discussing artwork from artists such as Frida Kahlo and James Ensor. They then rummaged through magazines and online to find images and text that best defines who they are to create a self-portrait collage.
