Mentoring Resources

As I grew in skill and knowledge, adaptability and curriculum/assessment development, event production and management, etc. in my profession as a dance educator, and as I had students of my own now entering the dance teaching profession, I felt an urge to create resources for new dance educators both locally within Vermont and abroad, nationally.

I developed the VT Dance PLC for dance educators.  An organization in which we support one another as dance teachers in our VT studio or high school setting.  We meet two to four times each year to share resources, student successes and challenges, collaborate, develop assessment tools, and unpack dance standards.

I also applied and was accepted to be a mentor for a new dance teacher in the pilot round of the National Dance Education Organization's Mentorship Program.  I was accepted into the 2 year program and developed a wonderful relationship, personally and professionally, with my mentee from Rochester, NY and now am a committee member for the Mentorship Program helping train and support mentors and mentees from across the country.

Here are some tools and resources I developed through the VT Dance PLC and the NDEO Mentorship Program:

VLOG - What I would do differently if I mentored again

VLOG - Topics and resources shared with my mentee

VLOG - My  experience as a mentor

As an educator, I know the invaluable impact a mentor can have on personal and professional support, confidence and development.

In the fall of 2021, I established a committee of dedicated faculty at Lyndon Institute to reinvent our mentoring program for new teachers.  In the fall of 2022, I will chair this program and am happy to talk to anyone about it!
