Preface: We are using Google workspace to meet our software needs for document creation and storage, scheduling/planning, and internal/external communications. The following information is only relevant for the internal LWBC staff who operate on a year-round basis and have been assigned a Google Workspace account.
Well done! You are now logged in and have access to the neccessary apps. For future access, it is important that you use the same browser that you used to login. Anytime you want to access the Google apps, (1) launch your browser, (2) navigate to the Google search page, (3) make sure that you are logged into your camp account, and (4) launch the app drawer and select the appropiate application.
If you have any questions please contact Isaac Winters at Events@lwbcmn.org Thanks!
The Google suite of online software is moderately powerful and represents a great resource for the LWBC staff to use independantly or in collaboration with peers. These apps represent a well-rounded and customizable tool belt to help you accomplish your tasks efficiently and effectively. Learning to use each will take time and effort, but the investment will pay dividends in increased efficiency and higher quality communication.
The following section will explore each of these apps and provide a preliminary explanation of each app and its uses.
Asset Creation:
Docs - A web-based word processor. Useful for written document creation.
Slides - A web-based presentation generation tool. Useful for presentations or illistrations.
Sheets - A web-based spreadsheet generator. Useful for managing finanical data or aggregating response data.
Forms - A web-based survey, quiz, and general response tool. Useful for counselor surveys, training quizzes, or general feedback.
Asset Management:
Drive - A digital "filing cabinet." This is a ground-zero storage location for all LWBC related files and digital IP. Useful for storing documents (e.g., long-term memory) that need to be maintained as an LWBC record or for operational purposes.
Note Taking:
Keep - A general, yet powerful, note keeping app that is best used for jotting down quick ideas, to-do lists, or other actionable items that need to be quickly accessed or stored without creating an actual document. These notes can be converted to a google doc for later storage if needed.
Calendar / Scheduling:
Calendar - Time management / scheduling software. Best used for communicating deadlines, reminders, and the display of LWBC related events and their appropiate details.
Communication:
Meet - Google's version of Zoom. It behaves quite similarily to Facetime, Zoom, or Skype. Except it is a little easier to use and integrates into the rest of the products. Best used for hosting video calls when staff cannot physically meet together.
Gmail - Google's email client. This communication channel will be utilized for internal and external communications that warrent increased structure and formality. Also useful for file sharing.
Chat - Google's equivalent to Slack, iMessage, or Discord. This app will primarily be used for everyday LWBC communications between related parties and teams. Groups are organized into "Rooms," which can host different "Threads" of topical conversation.
Many of these apps are quite powerful and have a fair amount of functionality. To cover all of these functions here would result in a small book's worth of content. In response to this, as you think a problem within your realm of responsbility that you think could be solved by the implementation of this suite of apps, we would love to work out a solution to meet your needs.
