Science Outings
Looking for a fun easy way to expand your knowledge in the field of science and earn extra credit in the process? Looking for a great way to spend a free day without having to sit for hours in front of the TV or playing video games?
Visit any SCIENCE RELATED museum or exhibit. Have fun, take a few pictures, and write a summary. It’s that easy!
WHERE: Natural History Museum, California Science Center, Page Museum, Griffith Park Observatory, Long Beach Aquarium, or ANY other museum or exhibit that you can relate to science. If you are going on a vacation to another city or state, check out the museums there. My favorites include the Science Center in Toronto, the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., the Exploratorium in San Francisco, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and the Ruben H. Fleet Museum in San Diego.
WHAT: Bring back the following items from your outing:
A picture of YOU standing next to your favorite exhibit.
A one-page summary of what you learned (factual data) about that exhibit. Also tell why it was your favorite.
A pamphlet or map with the information about the museum (if available).
WHEN: From the time you receive the Science Outings announcement until THURSDAY, 12/3. This extra credit is
offered for the fall semester only.
(Late work not accepted)
HOW MANY: Go to as many as you like – its lots of fun!
Each visit is worth up to10 points of extra credit.
You may turn in ONLY TWO this semester.
DUE DATE: No later than Thursday, 12/3.
NOTE: This assignment is OPTIONAL EXTRA CREDIT.
