Welcome to the new Aquatics/Wellness PE Class. This class is designed to work on the whole student! For the Aquatics aspect of the class we will be swimming each day, working on stroke technique, endurance and cardiovascular conditioning. For the Wellness aspect of the class we will be discussing and working on the whole body wellness, from nutrition to stretching and recovery.
Aquatic and Wellness is designed to develop and sustain a healthy individual in all aspects of the health spectrum. This course will teach students to be mindful and strengthen all 5 components of physical fitness 1) Cardiovascular endurance 2) muscular strength 3) muscular endurance 4)Flexibility 5) Healthful Body Composition. Through instruction and guided practice this course intends to help students discover their maximum potential. Students will have an opportunity to practice focus and attend to being present in their current action. This course will also help students to identify various emotions as well as techniques to manage these emotions. The content of this course is aligned with the LVUSD mission statement by targeting the well-being and support of the complete student and their needs. It focuses on the development of all three areas of the health spectrum. (physical, mental/emotional, social) Participating in this course will help students to value their abilities as well as set and reach personal goals in the areas of academics and emotions. This will be designed for students of all ranges, for those who just want to get in shape and swim for their PE credit all the way to students who are preparing to be on the swim team later in the school year.

Prerequisites:
Swim 100 meters competently, without touching the side or bottom of the pool.
You must at least be able to swim the Freestyle(Crawl) stroke. We will work on all stroke disciplines throughout the school year.
Method of Evaluation:
For the swimming & Core Body training portions of the class students will be given the Fitnessgram and evaluated in the beginning, middle and end of the school year. Students will then be reevaluated several times throughout the semester. For the Health Wellness portion of the class the students will be required to complete a semester long journal detailing daily routines. Along with the journal they will be required to complete projects that will include the Health Wellness portion of the class.
