8th Grade
Welcome to 8th grade Language Arts! Over the course of the year students will develop reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Reading will include short stories, novels, poetry as well as other forms of text such as websites, magazines and newspapers. Writing will include essays, short stories and poetry. Students will be giving oral presentations and learning active listening and analysis skills.
The primary goal of language arts program is to teach students to read and write well. Studies indicate that the more one reads, the better reader he/she becomes. Also, exposure to good literature enhances a student's vocabulary and improves their grammar usage. Students are required to read for pleasure outside of what's assigned in class.
While the goal is to continually update this class page it is not always possible, therefore it is the student's responsibility to make sure they have copied down the homework assignment while in class. The homework assignment is posted daily in Google Classroom. If a student is absent it is their responsibility to check the Absent Work box. Students are allowed one day to complete an assignment for each day they were absent, plus one additional day.
