Calabasas High School earned the College Board's AP® Computer Science Female Diversity Award for expanding young women’s access to AP Computer Science Principles (CSP).
This award acknowledges 1,119 schools for their work toward equal gender representation during the 2019-20 school year—nearly 37% more than the 818 schools recognized last year. Ours is one of only 831 schools to be recognized for achieving this important result in CSP.
This award acknowledges 1,105 schools for their work toward equal gender representation during the 2021-22 school year. Ours is one of only 832 schools to be recognized for achieving this important result in AP CSP.
Providing female students with access to computer science courses is critical to ensuring gender equality in the industry’s high-paying jobs and to drive innovation, creativity, and representation. The median annual wage for computer and information technology occupations was $88,240 in May 2019. However, a code.org analysis of 2017 Bureau of Labor Statistics data finds women represent just 24% of the 5 million people in computing occupations.
We have even more young women in this class this school year, and it makes me so proud! 😊 #GirlsInSTEM (And I’m proud of the young men and all students in this class too. You are all awesome!)
