Ms. Echt is RESPONSIBLE for - providing a safe and engaging learning environment, supporting students throughout their learning adventures, inspiring creativity, answering questions, providing feedback, demonstrating respect (for self and others), and trying her BEST!
Parents are responsible for - checking Wednesday folder for graded work and notes home, checking website for updated homework and schedules, communicating with teacher(s) email is best for quick response, checking Aeries for student progress, and trying their BEST!
A child is considered tardy when he/she arrives after 8:15. On Fridays we will begin our assemblies promptly at 8:15. On all other days, we will begin our exercise program at 8:15. Tardies will be reported to the office. Children arrive late feel disoriented. They miss out on important routines and community building activities. Please be sure your children arrive on time!
Upon returning from an absence, your child should bring a note stating the dates and the reason for the absence. Parents, please try to schedule doctor’s appointments after school hours. If you are going on a trip and your child will be out of school, please let the office know in advance so that a vacation contract can be prepared.
Homework assignments are given daily. They will be written on the small white board in the classroom, posted on my webpage under the homework tab, and the students will be given time each day to copy their assignments into their planners. Time is set aside daily to discuss each assignment, project, and upcoming quiz/test. This is your child's opportunity to ask questions and clarify details before beginning their independent practice at home.
Homework is assigned to support the daily lesson and provide important "think-time" at home. It is important that students complete their assignments on the day that they are assigned and turn them in the following day. Occasionally, long term projects will be sent home as well. They will be accompanied by detailed instructions after a thorough explanation in the classroom.
I will provide feedback regarding your child's progress through the Wednesday folder. It is important that parents review this folder and sign the stamped pages. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to attach a note or email me.
Students will be given one "free-bee" a semester. This allows an extra day for ONE assignment. After the "free-bee" is used, late assignments will impact work habits progress.
Upon their return to school, absent students are given the same number of days they were absent to complete the missed homework. For example, if the student was absent for 3 days he/she has 3 school days to complete all missing assignments.
Please review your child's planner and my webpage daily to ensure that your child is keeping up with his/her homework on a daily basis. A "quality control" check of your child's work is beneficial as well. My main homework focus will be the quality of work that is turned in. Work done too quickly, without the appropriate effort for that particular student, may be considered incomplete and will be returned for completion. I appreciate your support in helping your child develop good homework habits.
A conference schedule will be arranged at the end of the first trimester. Report cards will also be given out at that time.
If you would like to talk to me at any time, please feel free to send a note, email, or leave a message with the office. The best way to reach me is email.
I check all correspondence at the end of the day and will do my best to get back to you within twenty-four hours. If you don’t hear from me promptly, you can assume that our district server is “down”. If that is the case, please use the school phone to contact me or, if it is not time sensitive, send a hard copy of the email in your child’s homework folder the following day.
Birthdays are exciting for everyone! For your child’s birthday, they will receive a certificate and a small gift from me. According to school policy, we are not permitted to celebrate birthdays with food, but we will absolutely make the day a special one in the classroom. Once a month we will enjoy a short birthday celebration honoring our monthly birthdays. Parents will be contacted by our Room Parents to coordinate.
Bay Laurel uses a lunch program. Parents can "fill up" their child's lunch credits by purchasing lunches in advance through the office.
I strongly encourage you to send your child to school with a healthy recess snack. Children focus a lot better when their energy level is recharged.
