Welcome! My name is Rebecca Rinaldi, and I am a 6th grade GATE teacher at AEW Middle School. This is my 18th year teaching and my seventh year teaching at AEW. I love teaching the GATE classes(ELA/Social Studies/Science) and have many years experience working with many types of learners especially gifted learners. I completed my Bachelor's Degree and Credential Program at San Diego State University. I also have my Master's Degree in Education from Point Loma Nazarene and my GATE certificate from UC San Diego.
New 6th Grade GATE ELA/SS/SCIENCE Students: Welcome! These are things we would need. If you are doing some back-to-school shopping, for my class you will need:
ELA/SS Students: 2 lined composition notebooks (NOT a spiral notebook) for ELA/SS. Save one for semester 2. NO PERFORATED PAGES- IT WILL FALL APART(trust me).
SCIENCE Students: 2 graphing or 2 lined composition notebooks (NOT a spiral notebook) for ELA/SS. Save one for semester 2. NO PERFORATED PAGES- IT WILL FALL APART(trust me).
Lined spiral notebook for writing fluency and/or lined notebook paper(I will also have some extras in class) (Optional)
sharpened pencils(4-5) and a pencil sharpener
colored pencils
highlighters (3-4 different colors)
scotch tape(a lot! keep 1 in backpack), some like to use fun washi tape(we us a lot of tape!)
blue or black pens.
charged Acer or device. You can charge in my room if you bring your charger(put name on it).
earbuds or headphones
We will be using GOOGLE CLASSROOM and many assignments will be digital. However, we will also do some assignments in our notebooks(that is why you need a composition book).

Overview of 6th Grade ELA/SS Program
6th Grade Social Studies and ELA: Welcome! This year we will be Integrating Social Studies content with Reading and Writing to create an engaging learning environment rich in conquering reading standards, understanding Social Studies topics, and writing to express ourselves and our understandings. Students will write narratives, argumentative pieces, and informative pieces to express knowledge. Students will ask and answer questions, research, work collaboratively to access content with depth and complexity. We will have a lot of fun this year!
6th Grade Science- Welcome to 6th Grade GATE Science! Mrs. Herrera and I will be teaching 6th grade GATE science alongside each other. Content from science will be also be integrated across the curriculum. Students will explore many topics including weather, climate, erosion, deposition, space, and Earth's structure. Concepts will be analyzed and applied to current events and ancient civilizations. Some of our science will connect with our Social Studies and ELA studies. Throughout the year students will conduct research, investigate, and collaborate with others to have an engaging year of learning.
