Rules and Expectations:

Just as you have high expectations for me as your teacher, I have high expectations for you as my student. I expect you to come to class prepared and ready to create original artwork. While you are here, please be responsible with supplies and always be on task so you can do your best work.

Be Respectful- I expect you to treat your peers, your teacher (whether a substitute or me), and yourself with the highest level of respect. Please be polite and kind.

Respect the art materials and the classroom. They are to be treated in a professional manner. Take proper care and wash the brushes. Do not be wasteful of paint and paper. Do not write on the tables. Do not touch the computers, kilns, paper cutter or other art tools without a teacher’s permission. Graffiti will not be tolerated. Do not throw any materials or objects at any time.

Put in your Best Effort- Students are expected to participate fully in all classroom activities. No student is expected to be an accomplished artist upon entry into the class. The expectation is that the student will develop skills, through practice, during the year. Students will use all class time for ART class work only.

Artroom Behaviour/ Procedures- Come into the art room quietly and listen for instructions. Sit in your assigned seat and stay in your seat unless you are getting supplies or cleaning up.

QUIET talking is allowed while working on art projects. Keep conversation to your own table! If I need to give further instructions during the class period I expect you to stop talking and listen.

No running around of any kind will be tolerated in the Art classroom. This endangers students and those around them as well as putting creative endeavors at risk.

Take a hall pass to use the restroom and let me know if you need to leave the room. Only 2 people out of the room at a time.

Food. School policy states that food, gum, and beverages are not allowed in the classroom. You can drink water. However, water is not allowed near the computers and no bottle flipping.

Cell phones and other electronic devices are not allowed in class. They should be turned off and put away as per the student handbook.

Class Dismissal. You are dismissed by the teacher only after your your entire area is clean the end of the period. Check the floors for trash, put art materials away in designated location. Make sure stools are pushed in and tables are wiped down if dirty.

If behavior expectations, procedures and/or rules aren’t properly followed there will be consequences. If appropriate behavior becomes a challenge for you, we will meet to find a solution. If necessary, we will include parents and administrators. Extra clean-up, detentions or any other disciplinary actions will be taken based off the student handbook.

Grading:

All assignments must be completed on or before the due date. If you cannot complete a project or assignment on time, it is your responsibility to speak with me about an extension. Unexcused or missing work will result in an incomplete or lowered grade.

Art Projects are graded on:

Craftsmanship- you have taken your time and done a careful job

Following instructions- you have met the criteria outlined for each assignment

Understanding of the Concepts- Work shows good understanding and application of concepts

A = Excellent, outstanding effort, exceeds expectations; “WOW!!!”

B = Strong work, very good

C = Fair, adequate, looks finished.
