Hi, my name is Mrs. Carlson. I was born in California, and was fortunate enough to grow up in our very own Conejo Valley.
My education started at Westlake Elementary, I went onto Colina Middle School, and then onto Westlake High School. I attended Cal State Long Beach and obtained my BA, majoring in Illustration. A bit later on in my life I received my Master's in Education and Teaching Credential from Pepperdine University. Within one month of graduation I was hired by Las Virgenes Unified School District.
As far as my family, well, I’m blessed. My husband (a LVUSD graduate) and I were high school sweethearts, and we have been married for over 20 years now. A few years after college, we moved to Colorado with our new son, Chase. During our three years there we had our daughter, Christie. We eventually moved back to California so our children could grow up around the rest of our family. Now all of us, including our new puppy, Beckham, live back in the Conejo Valley.
When my children were in elementary school I discovered I really loved working with children. I was a room mom in both my children's classrooms. I was soon volunteering for many activities and later became the Programs V.P. on the P.F.A. I thought teaching would be a great career, so I became a substitute teacher and then a reading specialist. When I started with LVUSD I taught first grade for four years at Sumac Elementary. I was also an ELD and reading specialist at Sumac for two years educating children in grades 3-5. I taught first grade at Yerba Buena for three years, a year in third grade, and a 4/5 combination class for a year. My favorite grade to teach is fourth grade. This is my sixth year teaching fourth grade here at YB!
