Please review Dr. Duncan's school wide distance learning expectations here:
* Distance learning is not optional this Fall. Ed Code requires all children age 6 and up to be in school. *
Virtual Class Meetings:
Virtual meetings will take place daily to provide synchronous instruction.
Kindergarteners need to attend online from 8:30-9:00
First graders need to attend 9:00-9:45
Beginning August 24th: students will be placed in ability -based small groups for reading. These groups will meet once a week either 10:00-10:30 OR 10:30-11:00 on ZOOM.
Beginning August 31st: Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays will also have an afternoon ZOOM session. Kindergarteners will attend 12:30-1:00 and First Graders will attend 1:15-2:15. During this time, children will share their work from the day, ask questions and play developmentally appropriate games to build their social/ emotional health.
Please begin to log in to your child's class Zoom session 5 minutes prior to start time to plan for delays.
Please dress appropriately for school during virtual meetings and encourage your child to behave in a respectful manner toward the teacher and fellow students.
Please do not allow your child to eat or play during class meetings.
Attendance and Grades:
Daily attendance will be recorded during the morning Zoom. Children who log in 20 minutes or longer after the start time of the morning Zoom session will be marked tardy.
Grades will be give based on effort and mastery of the CA Content standards
Virtual assessments will take place one on one and will result in a change of normally scheduled live class Zoom sessions. Parents will receive notice when assessments will take place.
Teacher Communication:
It is best to communicate via Seesaw Family app or email
Messages during normal school hours will be returned as soon as possible. Messages outside of school hours will be given a response within 48 hours.
Asynchronous Instruction
Students will engage in online platforms such as Lexia, Seesaw, Think Central and Raz Kids to receive teacher feedback on his/ her academic progress. These sessions are not live, but do provide important instruction for your child. Teachers may even pre-record lessons for students to watch at a later time.
Asynchronous instruction is not optional and is required daily.
For both grade levels there will be a daily Youtube video that reviews the calendar, Pledge of Allegiance, number of days in school, morning message and more. It is recommended that students watch this video prior to the morning meeting on Zoom.
Independent Work
Independent work was handed out during the school supply pickup and includes, worksheets, poetry notebook, and other projects that can be done without the aid of a device. Please make sure that your child is completing the work primarily on his/her own. Adults can help explain directions, refocus students when a distraction arises and prompt higher level thinking, but should not give the child the answers.
These assignments will be explained on Zoom and should be completed on their own. Parents may be asked to take a photo of your child's work and upload it to Seesaw.
Homework:
-No additional homework will be assigned while on distance learning. If you would like additional work for your child you may increase the time spent on computer based programs such as Lexia, RazKids, BrainpopJr., ABCmouse. In addition students are always encouraged to read each day from the books they have at home or practice writing their sight words.
