Medical Note

Please use the attached Medical Note for all excuses and attach to Doctor's notes. There are two on each sheet. Please cut in half. Please note: Students are expected to dress to the best of their ability when on a medical. A note from a Doctor needs to be brought to the Health Office. The parent note below can excuse your child for up to 3 days.

Grading

Grading will allow for you to be the best you can be everyday and receive the rewards for your hard work and effort. You will be expected to explain, demonstrate, and articulate what you are learning through physical demonstrations, written homework, in-class work, skill assessments, and written tests.  Your PE grade is made up of the following: 60% participation, 20% fitness, 20% written work.  Assignments completed after the subject test / unit end date are not accepted. However, late work is accepted only when you have a medical excuse or an excused absence.

Overall Structure

Our class units run approximately 23 days. Please refer to the PE Department website for a list of activities/sports. We do allow for some flexibility and this typically is decided be the Department when issues such as weather are involved i.e. 3-4 days of rain, etc. Each week will consist of 3 or 4 sport days and 1 or 2 fitness days. (See Fitness below)

Daily Routine

Your overall daily routine will be the following: arrive on time to the locker room, change into PE clothes, go to roll call and sit quietly on your assigned dot, listen to daily announcements and take roll, complete warms up and daily jog, meet in location of activity/sport, participate in daily activity, turn in equipment and listen for daily closure, return to locker room to dress for remainder of the day!

Occasionally there may be locker room specific issues.  Boys will and should deal with Mr. Hare and for these (behavior, lock /locker issues, loaner clothes, etc).  Girls will deal with Mrs. Avery or myself.  Of course talk to me or email me as I will facilitate and follow up with Mr. Hare and if needed. Also, being made aware of issues keeps me abreast of some things which spill over into class time. IF THERE IS A PROBLEM, TELL US ~ OTHERWISE WE CANNOT HELP!

Fitness

Each month you will run a ‘formal’ mile. This means you will complete 4 laps around the field and receive a time. This will be graded.  Once or twice a week you will participate in a ‘fitness’ day. Typically this takes place Wednesday, however it can change days for various reasons.  This will focus on one or more of the 5 components of fitness. Fitness days usually are a long run, interval training, stations/circuits, fitness testing, etc.  These are also graded and a time standard is used.

Dressing

You are expected to have your proper PE clothes in your locker each day and wear them! You can wear your sweatshirt and/or sweatpants when you want. A PE shirt is required to be worn underneath your sweatshirt. Clothes worn to school are not allowed to be worn to PE. If you forget your clothes, we will offer 'loaners' to be worn.  Athletic shoes are also STRONGLY recommended. This is for your safety and health. If another type of shoe is worn to school you will be expected to change. PE shoes can be kept in your locker.

Supplies

Also, keep a pencil/pen in your locker as you will be required to record/complete assignments occasionally.  You will be tracking your fitness and run times. Please dedicate a thin folder to PE.  You will have to bring papers with you to class for tracking purposes. Since we are outside the elements effect us! Things to think about are: what will you do with your paper if we are on the wet grass? Or if it is windy? What about a place for your pencil? I will have a container for you to put your papers/folders in while the activity is taking place however you still need to plan accordingly. I highly recommend a gallon size plastic bag to protect it from water damage.

Make-ups

All fitness days must be made up. If you are on a long term medical (3 or more days, a written assignment may be given.)  Please ask me questions as they arise! If you are absent on a sport day, you do not have to make that day up.  If is virtually impossible to recreate the games we play. (However, those points will not be factored into your overall weekly total.) Attendance does make a difference.

Communication

Class announcements are through Google Classroom.  I also try to post class notices on the outside of the locker room doors. PLEASE pay attention to this when you enter! This will tell you if you need to form groups, bring a pencil, or notify you of any daily changes. The best way to reach me is email.  If you need me prior to class starting, boys can knock on my window and girls just come to the office inside the locker room.
