Welcome to Physical Education at A.E. Wright. I am looking forward to another exciting year. My goal is to motivate each student to achieve their personal best and to hopefully inspire them to have fun with movement activities.
Monday, Wednesday, Friday = Unit days
Tuesdays = Cardiovascular Days
Thursdays = Fitness days (we concentrate on a section of the body to strengthen...abdominals , biceps/triceps)

CONTENT VOCABULARY
Locomotor vs. Non Locomotor
Locomotor = Move from one place to another (walking, running, swimming, skipping, sliding , jumping forward, hopping backward)
Non - Locomotor = Moving on the spot without going anywhere. (twisting, bending, stretching, turning, jumping jacks, hopping in place, jumping in place)
Dynamic vs Static Warm Ups
Dynamic = Controlled movements that involve many different muscle groups. Increases blood flow, loosens muscles, increases range of motion.
Static = Stationary stretching done AFTER a work out or AFTER a dynamic warm up.
Heart Lab
Free Weights vs. Machines
Free Weights = portable, affordable, dangerous with poor form
Machines = stationary, costly for each individual machine, holds body in proper form.
Sets vs. Reps
Reps stand for repetition - how many times a single exercise is repeated
Set - A group or routine of exercises
EVERYDAY - slow jog to get the blood flowing
MONDAY
Abdominal = state fitness sit ups
Upper body = push up crawl
Core = forearm planks
Strength = burpees
TUESDAY RUN DAY
Dynamic warm ups prior to run
jog, high knees, butt kickers, walking toe touches, high skips
WEDNESDAY
Abdominal = scissor kicks
Upper Body = reverse push ups
Core = up / down planks
Strength = squats
THURSDAY
Abdominal = heel touch
Upper Body = hand taps
Core = side planks
Strength = lunges
FRIDAY
Abdominal = standing bicycles
Upper Body = regular push ups
Core = Planks with leg lifts
Strength = jumping stars
Students in 6th grade PE will have the opportunity to attend the annual Ocean Safety Day at Surfrider Beach in Malibu. This is a fun and exciting opportunity for students to learn to be safe at the beach and enjoy the ocean. Field trip forms will be handed out by the Physical Education teacher and need to be returned to the same teacher the week before their trip.NO LATE FORMS WILL BE ACCEPTED !!!!!! The L.A. County lifeguards offer this wonderful program to our youth. They supply each student with sunscreen, wetsuits, lifejackets , beginning surfboards and kayaks. They are all county certified lifeguards who teach and lead each station throughout the day.
