Birthdays are special days and won’t be overlooked in our classroom. Due to the district nutrition policy, parents are not allowed to send in snacks on their child’s birthday. I would like to suggest an alternative to bringing treats by having your child donate a special book or some supplies on his/her birthday. The birthday child may bring a book or item wrapped in birthday paper and tied with a ribbon to open in front of the class.
You are not obligated to do this, but I think it is a meaningful way for your child to share his/her birthday in a special way with the class.
On the day we celebrate your child’s birthday, we will each make a page for a special birthday book. We will have you fill in the birthday chart. We will sing and present the book to your child. Your child will have the opportunity to read some of the pages aloud. They will get to take their book home with them to share with family and friends.
Weekend and holiday birthdays will be celebrated the Monday or Friday nearest the actual day. Summer birthdays will be celebrated in June. An e-mail will be sent at the beginning of each month with a birthday schedule.
