The CJSF/Honor Society is coordinated by Lauren Freedman (lfreedman@lvusd.org). As a reward for their exemplary academic and citizenship achievements, students who qualify for 6th Grade Honor Society and 7th & 8th Grade CJSF are invited to attend one of our overnight educational field trips:
8th Grade:
In the fall, 8th graders who apply for and meet the qualifications for CJSF will have the opportunity to visit Nature Bridge in Yosemite National Park for six days of classes and hiking while learning about the geology, natural history, ecology, and conservation of the area. All Yosemite trip applicants must be in excellent physical health as they will be learning in the field and hiking 4-14 miles each day.
7th Grade:
In the fall, 7th graders who apply for and are accepted into CJSF will have the opportunity to go to Catalina Island Marine Institute (CIMI) for three days of marine biology and other science-related education.
6th Grade:
In the spring, 6th graders who apply for and are accepted into Honor Society will have the opportunity to attend Astrocamp in Idyllwild for three days of learning about astronomy, physics, and other related subjects.
Each of our Honor Society trips is voluntary and completely funded by parent contributions. Please look over the costs, trip descriptions, and specific parent and student meeting dates listed. If you think your child may wish to attend an overnight trip, please plan ahead by saving funds for these enriching experiences.
***Also, please note that we have limited spots for Astrocamp. If more students apply than our number of spots, we will make every effort to secure additional spaces. Applications are first come, first served and will be time stamped. Once we hit the maximum number of spots available, we will offer a lottery for the waitlisted students.
If you pay for your student to participate in an event and then must cancel your student’s participation, we will refund your money as long as there is adequate time to fill the spot we have reserved for your child. Requests made less than 14 days before the event may not be honored. If AC Stelle Middle School is forced to cancel an event due to circumstances outside of our control, such as a weather event or other emergency, we may not be able to provide you with a full refund of the fees you have paid. We will refund the amount over and above the non-refundable costs incurred for the event.
Student participation in any Honor Society or CJSF trip is based upon their membership in Honor Society or CJSF. Students MUST apply for AND qualify for membership each semester during the pre-determined application time period (however 6th graders won't apply until their first semester has been completed). For trips, there are parent (informational) and student (registration and medical, roommate selection, supply list) meetings that must be attended. Go to the trip page for dates and fee information.
