What do I need to check out materials from the Media Center?
You need your current Student ID (a picture of your ID works too!) in order to check out any materials from the library.
Can I come to the Media Center during class?
You must have a pass from your teacher or coach to come into the Media Center during class. Upon entering the Media Center, you must also sign in either via the QR code provided or on the sign in sheet located on the circulation desk.
How do I check out a book?
You must have a current CHS ID card to check out any material from the Media Center.
I lost my library book, what should I do?
Come into the Media Center and speak with the Media Center Coordinator.
Can I view my library and textbook account?
Yes, you can log into your own account by accessing your check outs on http://follett.lvusd.org. Click the upper right hand corner Login and enter your username and password credentials given to you by the district. (Username: Five letters of your first name, five letters of your last name, the last two digits of your ID card number and the last two digits of your birth year. Password: your entire ID card number)
Use the MyInfo tab to look up your checkouts.
How long can I borrow library books?
Library books can be checked out for three weeks with up to three renewals. Please return books in good condition and promptly in consideration of others.
I love to read! How many books may I check out at a time?
There is a limit of 10 books per student at any time.
My library book is overdue, how do I take care of the fine?
There is a ten day grace period on core literature novels and a three day grace period for regular library books. Your account must be current and no obligations owed to renew or check out new materials.
Can I print my documents from the Library Media Center?
Yes, the Library Media Center has black and white printing.
Can I eat in the Library Media Center?
No food or drinks allowed in the Library. Water is permitted, but only in a sealed water bottle or Hydroflask type container.
Core Literature Novels
I need a book for class, do you carry it in the library?
Yes! Teachers make requests and have books set aside for you to come pick up.
How long can I keep my class novel?
All core literature novels have a ninety day checkout period plus a ten day grace period. That should give you plenty of time to use it for the entirety of the final project with the book.
We’re still using it in class and now I’m getting overdue emails, what do I do?
Come down to the Media Center and speak with Media Center Coordinator
How many core lit novels can I have out at a time?
One! Teachers usually only assign one book to you at a time, so you have to return the previous book to get the new book. This way you don’t forget about the old book after you’ve gotten the new one! Plus it’s convenient to swap books when you come to turn in the first one!
Textbooks
My friend came over to study and we may have switched books, how do I find out which one is mine?
You can log on to your library account http://follett.lvusd.org (see above insturctions) to find out the barcode of your textbook.
Take a picture of your book's barcode to reference it whenever you need. The barcoded book you check out at the beginning of the year is the same book that must be returned at the end of the year.
Can I leave my textbook in the classroom so I don't have to take it home?
You are responsible for everything you check out. Do not leave your books in the classroom, do not lend out your books to your friends, and do not leave it on top of your locker. You are responsible the exact barcoded book you check out.
I lost/damaged my textbook, what should I do?
You must pay for the textbook by paying online via PayPal. To access PayPal please go to https://www.lvusd.org/payments. Please choose from the "Item Type" "Library/Textbook Fines". Email a copy of the receipt to the Media Center Coordinator. Once received, you will be sent an email confirming account is cleared. PayPal and Library system are not connected, therefore a copy of receipt required.
I purchased a replacement textbook, do I owe the Library Media Center anything?
Yes, we charge a 5$ processing fee for the replacement book. This covers the cost of the materials to reprint the label for the book (ink and address labels)!
I’m getting emails saying my textbook is overdue, am I going to be charged a late fee when I return it?
No, we do not charge late fees for late textbooks. The only time we will charge for a textbook is if it has been lost or damaged beyond repair and there is a possibility that you can replace it.
Laptops
Do I actually need a laptop at school with me every day?
Yes, your laptop is like a textbook. You should have it in class with you every day in case your teachers want you to use it.
What do I need to get a loaner a laptop?
You need your student ID card or 5-Star in order to obtain a loaner laptop.
My LVUSD laptop doesn’t work, how do I get it fixed?
Bring it to the Media Center, in most cases the Coordinator will correct the problem in a few minutes while you wait. When necessary, he may issue a one-day loaner to accommodate longer repairs.
I forgot my laptop at home, what do I do?
The Media Center has loaner laptops which can be borrowed for a day or for a class period. However, supplies are limited and loaners are prioritized for students with broken or damaged LVUSD laptops.
Can I keep the loaner overnight?
No. The loaner laptop needs to be returned at the end of the day it was checked out.
I have my laptop, but it’s not charged. Do you offer loaner chargers?
As long as you have your Student ID card or 5-Star, you may borrow a one-day loaner charger for a LVUSD laptop.
