Late Work/Absent Policy
Late Work/Absent Policy
Late Work Policy (not due to absence or emergency)
Students should be turning in work when it is due unless they have a special accommodation to receive extra time and need that time (IEP or 504), are absent (excused) or have an emergency. *Emergencies need to be verified by a parent or guardian in writing.
With that being said I understand that middle school students are still learning organizational skills and might make mistakes or forget a homework/classwork assignment on occasion. If a student needs to submit a late assignment (not due to emergency, absence, IEP or 504 accommodation), they need to complete the following steps:
Complete and submit the assignment as instructed within 3 school days (not including weekends and holidays)
Turn in a completed late pass to Mrs. E in person within 3 school days (5 passes provided to CP and 2 provided to Honors each quarter) No more than that amount of late work (not due to emergency, absence, IEP or 504 accommodation) will be accepted each quarter. No EXCEPTIONS!
***Unused late passes will be collected at the end of each quarter for extra credit points!
****No LATE PASSES will be accepted for AR! The deadline is the deadline, so please plan ahead.
Excused Absence Work Policy
Absent students should check the calendars on my google classroom. Students should also email Mrs. E with any questions as needed.
Absent students will receive the amount of days they were absent plus one to complete the work for full credit. (For example, if you were absent for two days, you will received three school days to make up the work for full credit.)
For DIGITAL assignments: Once the absent work has been completed and submitted, student MUST also email Mrs. E to let her know assignment is complete and ready to be graded prior to the deadline to complete the absent work. In the subject of your email, student should write, ABSENT WORK and in the body of the email, student should list the assignment title and let me know it is ready to be graded. Mrs. E will send a follow up email saying "got it" once absent assignment has been assessed.
For HARDCOPY assignments: Bring the completed assignment to Mrs. E within the timeframe provided either before or after class.
You do not need to use a late pass if you were absent and your absence is excused provided you complete the work within the window of extra time provided (days absent plus one)!
Absent students should always check-in with me the day they return from an absence to make sure they have everything they need to get caught up.
Good times to check-in are before class if they arrive early enough, during lunch support periods (Thurs.), after class, or before school as I am available, but during the middle of class is never a good time.
*Projects, tests and writing assignments with deadlines provided prior to a student's absence are due on the day the student returns to school unless Mrs. Edwardsen has made an exception prior to the student's return.
*AR is due on the AR deadline!
Emergency
*If you have an emergency, please have a parent/guardian communicate with me and given the circumstances I will work with you to provide extra time or excuse you as appropriate.
***Whether your work is late, you are absent or you have an emergency, communication is KEY! Please take ownership over your work and email me in advance if there is an issue, so I can help you find a reasonable solution.***
