In our classroom, homework is purposeful and meaningful. Most homework will focus on skills that benefit from regular practice, such as math fact fluency, spelling, cursive writing, and reading.
Students will not have homework every night besides 20 minutes of reading. Homework will be sent home each Friday and is due the following Thursday, unless otherwise noted. Our classroom agenda with homework assignments, important upcoming dates, and the learning goals we're focusing on in each subject will be sent out each Friday on Parent Square. I encourage you to review the agenda with your child to help them know what is happening in class.
Children work hard all day and deserve time after school to relax, play, and enjoy time with family. A healthy balance helps them return to school refreshed and ready to learn.
When a student has difficulty meeting classroom expectations, we follow a consistent progression to help them reflect, learn, and make better choices.
Redirect – A gentle reminder to adjust behavior and get back on track.
Sideline – A short break in a quiet area of the classroom to refocus while continuing to participate in the lesson and complete work.
Reflection – The student completes a reflection sheet and meets with the teacher to discuss what happened and identify strategies for future success.
Home Communication – A note is sent home for a caregiver's signature to share what happened during the day. Please return it the next day. This provides an opportunity for home and school to work together, discuss the situation with the student, and develop strategies to support positive choices moving forward.
