Geometry (Grade: 10)

Full Year - 5 Credits

Course Weight: College Prep

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Algebra I.

This course covers the basic fields of plane, solid and coordinate geometry. The first part of the year introduces fundamental definitions, properties, and procedures used in analyzing and solving problems deductively rather than just by induction. In addition, an appreciation of the necessity for logical thinking and orderly methods of solving problems is developed. As the year progresses, more and more algebra is brought into the course. Students find with increasing frequency that they apply the principles developed during the year. Finally, the correlation of algebra and geometry is studied in the units on coordinate geometry. The interchange between the two courses is studied and the students develop the ability to change from one field to the other
