Understanding the Next Generation of College Students

Moravian College, Haupert Union Building, Pavilion

Speaker: Nicole Loyd, Vice President for Student Affairs & Dean of Students, Moravian College

Meet the Speaker

Dr. Nicole Loyd, Vice President for Student Affairs at Moravian College

Dr. Nicole Loyd is the Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Moravian College; she found her “home” at Moravian in 2008. A first-generation college student, Loyd is committed to the student experience and serving marginalized populations. She grounds all her work in understanding, embracing, and helping to shape campus cultures.

Loyd earned her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education from Bucknell University. She earned her Ph.D. in Higher Education from the University of Virginia where she studied teamwork, emotional intelligence and generations. Her quantitative dissertation, The Impact of a Teamwork Environment on Job Satisfaction: A Study of College and University Student Affairs Administrators, defined higher education teamwork (8 components) and job satisfaction (3 components) and found that job satisfaction is positively correlated with teamwork. Prior to her study, no one had tried to identify the components of teamwork in higher education.

In her role as Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Moravian College, she is responsible for overseeing the student experience outside of the classroom including: athletics & recreation; campus police; career & civic engagement; counseling center; dining services; diversity, equity & inclusion; greek life; health center, housing, hub & event management; new student orientation; residence life; religious & spiritual life; student development and student involvement.

In addition to her responsibilities at Moravian, Loyd serves as a consultant inside and outside of higher education. She has been working with a University in New Jersey for the past 18 months to guide the senior leadership through the creation and implementation of their next Strategic Plan; and is a frequent guest speaker on the topics of generations and emotional intelligence at colleges and universities, corporations, and associations throughout the united states.
