The University should update their mandatory staff equality & diversity training by using more real person case studies & adding sign posting to report discrimination

What do you want? / Why do you want it?

This idea was created concerning the fact that the current equality and diversity training is very 'tick in the box' and does not specify how to be an ally and support individual and peers who are from a minority background (whether that's sexuality, disability, religion or race); yet alone how to support them when there are dealing with discrimination. There is very minimal amount on how to signpost said individuals to the correct and appropriate support as well how to report on discrimination and how said reports are being managed. Finally, the lack of case scenarios and use of statistics make discrimination feel like it is an isolating concept when in reality it happens around us.

I feel that there are several ways to improve the current equality and diversity training. When reviewing the current training, I believe it would be appropriate to provide actual case scenarios so that people are aware of the impacts of discrimination (whilst considering appropriate confidentiality). Furthermore, there needs to be more information on how to support those being discriminated and allyship, and this includes providing and appropriate flow chart on how to report discrimination and how said reports are followed
