Annihilation, the first book in the Southern Reach series, received critical acclaim, earning prestigious awards like the Nebula and Shirley Jackson, and was adapted into a major film by Paramount Pictures. VanderMeer has shared his insights as a speaker at top universities, including MIT, Columbia, Yale, and Vanderbilt, and was honored as the 2024 John Hersey Memorial Speaker at the Key West Literary Seminar. SSBG focuses on creative and engaging projects that address gaps in public information, serve underserved areas, and amplify key biodiversity and quality-of-life issues in Florida communities.
