The Trustee board for Lush Cosmetics Ltd is made up of five Trustees:
2 x Staff Elected Trustees - Voted for by all Group employees in our famous EBT elections
2 x Company Appointed Trustees - Appointed by the Lush Board
1 x Independent Trustee appointed by the company appointed and staff elected Trustees
Here’s everything you need to know about our Trustees…
Staff Elected Trustee
Julia is from Lush Austria and has been part of the Lush family since 2015. "I started as a Christmas Temp and after a few days of work I knew that I would like to work for this company longer. After a while I became Supervisor of the busiest shop in Austria, Vienna and in Summer 2019 I got voted as a Trustee, which means a lot to me! I am now a Finance Assistant in Lush Austria and am really enjoying being an EBT Trustee"
"Lush is a beautiful place to work at and I want everyone to feel the same way. Even in difficult times we have to take care of each other. Staying connected is the key to being heard. As a Trustee I want to make sure that every voice is taken seriously."
Staff Elected Trustee
Wendy is our staff appointed Trustee also elected in our 2019 elections and is based in the UK. "I’ve been with the business for the last ten years. Firstly as a Christmas temp, a shop manager, a product and brand trainer and now a retailer for the UK and Ireland. Throughout my whole experience, my passion for Lush has come from the people who work for our business; It’s what made me want to work here in the first place! I truly think we have the most unique and amazing work force."
"I wanted to be an EBT Trustee as my politics and activism both in and out of the company are about equality, inclusivity and diversity. Something I's always strive to improve and protect. Beyond that I am excited to offer all 'Lushies' the chance to be heard, shape our future and keep changing the world."
Independent Trustee
Helen brings with her over twenty years experience in the Employee Owned sector in an operational and non-executive capacity and is currently Trustee for several purpose led organisations. “ Working with organisations that care for their people, communities, and planet deeply matters to me and I am truly inspired by Lush’s commitment to core values and ethical standards. I spent 18 years at John Lewis Partnership in a variety of independent and operational roles. It was there that I grew a genuine passion and respect for Employee Ownership as I saw in action the difference that ownership can make to an individual and an organisation."
"Throughout the past year I have been blown away by the scale of your EBT network and the commitment made to strengthen this at every opportunity. You may only be 10% employee owned, but believe me, that 10% is being nurtured, respected, and listened to."
Lush Co Founder, Shareholder, Inventor and Company Appointed Trustee
Mo Constantine co-founded Lush in 1995 with six co-founders including husband Mark and has been involved in the creation and manufacture of innovative beauty products for the past 25 years. Mo manages our manufacturing business and specialises in inventing solid, unpreserved and unpackaged products and was granted her first patent in 1988 for the invention of the resoundingly popular solid shampoo bar, although most commonly known as ‘inventor of the Lush Bath Bomb’ Most recently, Mo led the team working on the concept and opening of our very first Fresh shop in Paris.
Mo wanted to be involved with the Lush EBT to help steer it along the right path and make sure we had the right intentions, that the EBT did what we wanted it to do for the staff and for the business.
"All of you, the staff, who have spent so many years building the business, will have ownership so that no one from the outside can come in and make demands and change the ethos which is so important to us all. It gives our staff an opportunity to have a say about things and is lovely to see people starting to use their voices."
Lush Director, Shareholder and Company Appointed Trustee
Karl Bygrave has been working with the Lush Founders since before Lush was ever established, in the early days of Cosmetics to Go. Karl has had a very colourful journey starting with the set up of the Japanese business and relocating to Australia to re-organising the Australian business and introducing Lush to several new markets including New Zealand, The Middle East and Brazil.
Through his love for animals, has championed Lush’s non-animal testing work through The Lush Prize and Lush’s Human Cell Culture testing programme for almost ten years. Karl has managed all legal and regulatory elements of the business and in Karl’s words ‘It is his job to remove any block or barriers to enable the company to do what it wants to do while managing the business risk’.
Karl was instrumental in establishing the Employee Benefit Trust and deciding on the correct employee ownership model for Lush.
"I'm very touched to have been asked to be a Trustee. Our company is about all of the people who are in it and the contribution everybody makes to the success of Lush. The Lush EBT is an important aspect of the business and very important recognition of every member of staff’s contribution."
