1st Semester 

August-December

Reading/ Language: Listening and speaking; recognize letters and letter sounds(Aa-Mm); shared reading; read aloud book discussion and comprehension questions; begin sight words; opposite; positional words

Writing: Strengthening  fine motor skills with use of fine motor journals(Prewriting development, types of lines); write/trace first names; begin shared writing; first set of letters shared writing; beginning sounds

Math: Basic shapes (circle, square, rectangle, triangle, oval, heart, rhombus); sequencing and recognizing numbers 0-16; more/less, fewest/most, sort

Science: 5 senses; Health and Hygiene; Dental Care; The Four Seasons; Weather; Day & Night

Social Studies: All About Me; Family; Community Helpers; All About St Maarten; Transportation

Life Skills: Feelings/Emotions; Manners/Please & Thank you; Waiting turns/being selfish; Attentive Listening; Respect 

Frog Street: Listening; Oral Language; 1:1 correspondence; correctly using classroom/ classroom materials (care of environment)

2nd Semester

January- June

Reading/ Language: Recognize letters (Nn-Zz); recognize all letters of the alphabet and all sounds; word parts; sight words; word families with rhyming read aloud; book discussion and comprehension questions “turn and talk”; positional words; opposites; directionality

Writing: Write first and last names; shared writing beginning sounds; invented blending/spelling; words

Math: Shapes(octagon, hexagon, trapezoid, star, crescent) numbers 17-30; 1:1 correspondence; sort 2 different ways; number words one to five

Science: Life cycle of a frog; The Earth;  Plants and Trees; Bugs and Insects; Animal Investigations (animals and their homes); Dinosaurs

Social Studies: Safety; Friends; Needs and Wants; Goods and Services; Map Skills, Now & Then; Reduce Reuse & Recycle

Life Skills: Forgiveness/Apologizing; How to be a good student; Responsibility; Table Manners; Independence; Honesty; Tying shoes, zipping, buckling, fastening, snapping; 

Frog Street: Vocabulary; sequencing events (of story and in life); comparing; measuring
