Course overview: This course will center around various topics that students will need to research and defend or oppose. The curriculum is created with students and may include areas such as stem cell research, in vitro fertilization, organ donation, and genetically engineered food. The course is designed for juniors and seniors as it requires a level of maturity consistent with upper class students. Discussion is an important element in this course and both small group and whole class discussions will be regular features. Participation is expected and will be taken into consideration when grades are calculated

Note to Parents/Guardians:

The content of this class focuses upon controversial and sensitive issues that generate strong opinions and feelings. The primary reason this course is only open to juniors and seniors is that a certain level of maturity is needed to productively and openly discuss these issues. The major goals of the course are to present unbiased scientific information and to teach the basics of ethical decision-making. All viewpoints are discussed. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you might have.
