The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program, known in New Mexico as NMWorks, provides a monthly cash benefit used to meet basic family needs such as housing, utilities, and clothing.
To qualify for TANF, a person must:
· Live in New Mexico
· Be below income and resource limits set for the program
· Have dependent children age 18 or younger who are citizens or have eligible alien status
· If children are 19, they must be a full-time high school student expected to graduate before the end of the month in which they become 20

If help is needed after applying for LIHEAP, apply through Samaritan House by:
· Bill must be past due or service about to be cut off, unless elderly
· Call for appointment at Sam House and bring:
· Proof of income for all adults living in household (if no income, proof of SNAP, child support, etc.)
· LIHEAP application
· Proof of health insurance for children
Salvation Army
To apply through Salvation Army:
· If you need help paying your winter heating bills, New Mexico Gas Company wants to help you stay warm. HEAT New Mexico is our heating assistance fund, administered by the Salvation Army.
· A valid ID for everyone in your household (photocopies are accepted). For adults, a photo ID, such as a driver’s license, is needed. For children, identification can include their birth certificate, immunization records, a school ID, or insurance card.
· A copy of your current New Mexico Gas Company bill.
· Proof of income. We can also accept proof of LIHEAP Assistance received after October 1, 2023.
