The Mentors

My name is Sherry Goodyear, and I am the LCC Rough Rider Mentorship and College Readiness Program Director. This is a new program for Luna, and I look forward to a successful year of mentoring students and helping them prepare for success in the future. Welcome to the program!

Hello, my name is Ray Varela and I am the ACE tutoring/mentoring Coordinator and Veterans Benefits Coordinator. I have worked at Luna Community College for 9 years and lived my entire life in Las Vegas. I am passionate about helping others succeed and becoming the best possible versions of themselves. I look forward to guiding and mentoring students from middle school to college students.


Hi. My name is Paige Gowen, and this is my second year in college. I am studying to become a registered nurse. Some of my favorite hobbies are riding horses, playing soccer, and being outside. I am super excited to meet you all.

I am Sergio Hartshorne, a writing tutor at Luna Community College. Some of my interests include but aren't limited to: anime, video games, reading and hiking.

My name is Hailee Gallegos. My major is Mathematics, and I tutor in math. I'm an outgoing person, and I love to stay active and play with my dog. My favorite foods are either tacos or sushi.

Hi, my name is Ashton Whiteaker. I am from Carlsbad, N.M., and I am attending Luna to study pre-engineering. I am also living my dream of playing college baseball.


My name is Brayden Schofield. I am studying at Luna to get my pre-engineering degree and playing baseball. My goal is to move on to a university and get my mechanical engineering degree and continue to play baseball.

Hello, my name is Mary Frances Bibb. I was born and raised in Las Vegas, New Mexico. I have been working in the ACE Lab for a year and just started working as a Laboratory Aide at New Mexico Highlands University. I recently received two associate's degrees in General Science and Mathematics from Luna Community College. I am currently working on a bachelor's degree at New Mexico Highlands University in environmental science. In the ACE Lab, I tutor mainly in science but also in math and composition. When I am not busy with school and work, I love to play with my dog and my ducks.
