Band of Gold

The Lumpkin County High School instrumental music program is composed of the “Band of Gold” (Marching Band), Symphonic Band, Percussion Ensemble and Jazz Band (traditional swing band). All elements of the music program have consistently received superior and excellent ratings at GMEA LGPE, marching competitions and festivals. Different elements of the band have performed in parades at Universal Studios, the Magic Kingdom as well as in concert venues at the Lincoln and WWII Memorials. In 2014, the LCHS Symphonic Band performed with The US Army Concert Band in Brucker Hall at historic Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall. The LCHS Jazz Ensemble has performed at the Sunbelt Jazz Festival held on five different occasions.

LCMS and LCHS band students have participated in the University of Georgia High School Music Festival, Georgia State University High School Music Festival, GMEA District 9 Honor Band (MS and HS), GMEA All-State Band (MS and HS), Georgia Governor’s Honors Program (studying music) and the U.S. Army All-American Marching Band.

Graduates of the LCMS/HS instrumental music program are currently involved in music programs at the University of Ga., Ga. Tech, Ga. State, University of West Ga., University of N. Ga., Jacksonville St. University (AL), Clemson University (SC), Western Carolina and the Eastman School of Music.
