Results and Performance (RAP) updates 2020

Results and Performance (RAP) is IEG's annual review of World Bank Group’s development effectiveness. A compact version of its findings was requested and along with the specialists I created a data visualization summary. Development took a few weeks to fine tune, but we ended up with an effective, short and visually appealing brief.

Favelas in the media report

Link for full report.

Favelas in the Media report was a publication from Catalytic Communities(CatComm), an empowerment, communications, think tank, and advocacy NGO working since 2000 in support of Rio’s favelas at the intersection of sustainable community development, human rights, local-global networks, communications, and urban planning. In this report, I was the volunteer designer and producer. CatComm supports and empowers residents of informal settlements, evolving strategically to support their needs as they arise. One year after the Rio Olympics,CatComm has published a new report on international media portrayals of Rio’s favelas from 2008 to 2016. The report show how vehicles paint the image of the favelas in 7 aspects: favela specificity (if they name the favela or generalize), overall impression, language used to name favelas, favela portrayal, favela resident portrayal and perpetrators of violence in favelas (whether the residents, the police or both).

My job was to create the design and data visualization for the report. I was given a lot of freedom to design the best way to visualize the data. The colors scheme try to also convey the same thing throughout the publication whenever possible. I also coordinated the production of the report, helping determine the steps to be taken and the best way to do them.

Cadernos FGV Projetos

Link for more issues.

Cadernos FGV Projetos was a publication by FGV Projetos going on for over ten years. Each number features a different subject, ranging from sustainability to public policy, education, and law. In 2017, as I worked at FGV Projetos as a designer, I was responsible for the new identity of the publication. Since it is institutional, it had to be clean looking, but it was the team's desire to give it a very modern look. My idea was to use Pantone colors to make it pop, and give modernity together with the sans-serif font choice, and the grid; to make the rest black and white - which fits the budget and gives the publication an elegant and stern look -; and to have a serif font in the main text to make it comfortable to read both in paper and on the screen, and to add to the elegance. Each issue will have its own Pantone color to make it stand out and be personalized. Another addition was the creation of infographics to the publications. It gives makes the information more interesting and gives the eye a small break from the text. Cadernos FGV is printed on offset paper for a matte and comfortable finish, and the cover has spot varnish on the color rectangle and the title.

Aprendendo a falar, by Juliana Trentini.

Aprendendo a falar is a Brazilian book by the speech therapist Juliana Trentini. It was written to be a guide to children's speech development, and the author wanted it to be a light, easy and colorful book. I was responsible for the layout design of the interior of the book. Using colorful tabs in different tabs, the design creates an easy access to the chapters, making them easy to be identified and reached. Illustrations by Giuliana Giusti open each chapter. Cover design by Fernanda Smith. Published by Much Editora.
