Are there costs associated with enrolling in the Lufkin ECHS?
Lufkin ECHS students are provided with the opportunity to earn up to 60 Angelina College semester credit hours FREE including tuition, books, and instructional fees.
Do students have to take all 60 semester credit hours during high school?
No--students are not required to enroll in all 60 dual-credit hours to participate in the Lufkin ECHS. In cooperation with Lufkin ECHS staff, students will choose a plan of courses that works best for their future career or university transfer plan. This may be an Associate of Arts in General Studies, Transfer Hours as part of the Core Curriculum, or a certificate program.
If students are not passing courses, are they eligible to stay in Lufkin ECHS?
Yes--Lufkin ECHS will provide academic support to the students who are failing courses, which may include: additional tutoring opportunities, individualized planning, etc.
Does having too many college credits hurt students’ chances of getting into major colleges and universities?
Typically ECHS students are regarded by colleges and universities as freshmen, not transfer students. They will apply for colleges like any other incoming senior and be eligible for the same scholarships as high school students without dual-credit hours.
Can students still be in STEM or GT classes and ECHS?
Lufkin ECHS students may participate in the GT program and classes; however, students will be expected to choose between the STEM Academy and the Lufkin ECHS. Lufkin ECHS students may choose a STEM endorsement and take any AP science and math coursework other than the STEM elective.
If I'm taking Dual Credit Classes, am I considered an ECHS student?
To be classified as an ECHS student, student must have applied and accepted in their 8th grade year. However, student's do no have to be in ECHS in order to take dual credit classes. Any LHS student can take dual credits.
Am I able to take summer classes at Angelina College?
If the summer dual credit course is not offered at LHS, the student must obtained approval from the ECHS director of the summer course the student is interested before applying to Angelina College.
How many times can I take the TSIA?
An ECHS student can take or retake the TSIA unlimited times at no cost. However, students can only take the TSIA on the school offered dates and must register by the deadlines. Registration forms are due in the Counseling office only.
On the ELAR (English) TSIA, is it possible to pass only one portion of the test?
The ELAR TSIA has 2 sections that student must pass in order to be ELAR complete. The two sections are: the Essay and Multiple Choice. It is possible for a student to pass one section and not the other. In this case, the student would only need to retake the portion needed to complete the ELAR TSIA.
Who do I need to reach out if I am wanting to drop: an Advanced Course or Dual Credit course?
There is a Drop From that must be filled out and signed by the following: the student, parent, teacher, ECHS Student Success Coach, Grade Level Counselor and Director of Counseling. All signtures are reuired for a change to be official.
