The Luck School District is pursuing a $9.85 million referendum in the April 7, 2020 election. This comes on the heels of a building referendum in April 2019 that failed by less than 30 votes. Since the last referendum, the Board of Education spent time reviewing all the proposed projects, conducting a community survey to examine why constituents voted the way they did, and holding various focus groups to gain insight on the best path moving forward.
Two consistent messages emerged from these outreach efforts: do not take away green space by the lake with a parking lot and invest more in the shop areas. The Board of Education embraced these ideas and altered the project scope to reflect the community’s needs. As a result, the Wellness Center, community weight room, and parking lot were removed from the scope of work and replaced with a smaller-scale gym. Improvements were added to the Family & Consumer Education Room, Technical Education area, and metals shop.
The spring referendum comes with a slightly higher price tag due to increases in construction costs, these maintenance needs must be addressed or they will continue to cause issues.
We will be holding a community meeting on Thursday, March 5th, at 6:00 pm in the cafeteria to provide additional details for each proposed project.
If you have any questions, I urge you to contact me or any Board of Education member. We welcome the opportunity to answer your questions as we continue to embrace our mission of providing an educational landscape focused on respect, integrity, and excellence.
