Through lightweight, multi-view, and open neural imaging technologies, we aim to accelerate innovation in neuroscience. The technologies developed under the Go-Tech Program (Growth-oriented Small and Medium Enterprise R&D Support Project) led by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan have been patented and filed both domestically and internationally by Tanaka Engineering Inc.
Luceria holds usage rights based on a partnership agreement with Tanaka Engineering Inc.
Building on these achievements, Luceria promotes the advancement and social implementation of technologies that support next-generation neuroscience research, guided by the spirit of open innovation.

Luceria was established as a spin-out from TANAKA Engineering Inc. (https://www.tanakagiken.co.jp/), with the mission of commercializing and implementing in society the “Ultra-thin Fluorescence Camera System for Calcium Imaging” originally developed under Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry–supervised Go-Tech Program.
Since its founding, Luceria has maintained a strong partnership with TANAKA Engineering, leveraging the technical assets developed through the Go-Tech initiative. We continue to receive their expertise and support in both structural design and manufacturing technology.
This enduring relationship forms a solid foundation for Luceria to pursue stable research and development and to deliver innovative products to the scientific community and society.
Building on the achievements of the Go-Tech Program, Luceria aspires to become a hub of open innovation by further expanding collaboration with academic institutions, universities, and experts.
Drawing on the advanced research experience we gained through the Go-Tech initiative — in partnership with the RIKEN (Institute of Physical and Chemical Research) and other leading institutes — we will continue to foster cross-disciplinary expertise. Through these collaborations, we aim to create new knowledge and value, and to evolve our technologies into essential foundations for the neuroscience of the future.
IIn bringing our technologies into practical use for research institutes and pharmaceutical companies, Luceria envisions collaboration with sales partners who have expertise in the distribution of in vivo imaging and research equipment.
Although formal sales channels have not yet been established, we are actively exploring collaborations with specialized distribution networks in this field. Through such partnerships, we aim to build a reliable system to ensure that our innovations reach researchers worldwide.

As President of Tanaka Engineering Inc., Shunji Tanaka promoted the development of the small-diameter fluorescence camera system for calcium imaging, the origin of Luceria’s foundation. Since Luceria’s establishment, he has supported the social implementation of the technological assets developed by Tanaka Engineering.

While serving as Managing Director of Panasonic R&D Center Singapore and Director of Panasonic Laboratory Tokyo, Akino Inoue engaged in research and practice of innovation process models that integrate creative approaches such as design thinking, foresight, and systems thinking in diverse teams. Currently, Inoue serves as Project Manager for the Technology Creatives Program jointly run by Institute of Science Tokyo, Hitotsubashi University, and Tama Art University.
At Luceria, he provides advice mainly from the perspective of open innovation, one of Luceria’s core principles, as well as from diverse viewpoints.
